Empower, an Icelandic DE&I firm focused on equality in the workplace, today announced it has secured $2.29m in funding.
The funding round is led by Frumtak Ventures, an Icelandic VC firm. Tennin, an early-stage angel investment firm, also participated in the round. The funding will be used to scale its DE&I methodologies, including benchmarking, training and analytics services, through its new SaaS solution, Empower NOW.
The office of the National Commissioner of Police in Iceland has signed a contract with Empower to enter into the Empower Equality Roadmap
Work on the project will begin in January and include all staff members during the unique 4 phase model. The Office of the National Commissioner of Police will then be added to a group of leading organisations that have been through the project such as The National Power Company, Landsvirkjun, The Metropolitan Police, The National Bank, Landsbankinn, the University of Akureyri and others.
Ásthildur Otharsdóttir has been appointed as chairman of the board at Empower. She will represent Frumtak Ventures, which led 300 million ISK of funding in Empower to build the software solution Empower Now.
Jóhann Þorvaldur Bergþórsson and Dee Thomsen have been appointed as board members.
Ingunn Guðmundsdóttir and Snæfríður Jónsdóttir have joined the ever growing Empower team.
Both of them will work as experts in digital development and marketing. Ingunn comes to Empower from Capacent, where she worked as a management consultant.
Snæfríður comes from Pay Analytics, where she was an expert in the company's marketing team. Before that, she worked as a business manager at the advertising agency Twist.
The solution gives organisations a holistic view of the DEI status in the workplace in a dashboard for managers.
The metrics in the dashboard are based on their Empowers proven methodology, which is now being converted into the software EMPOWER NOW. "To be able to get a complete overview of diversity & inclusion in the organisation," says Þórey.
"The DE&I market is becoming bigger every year. Organisations are having trouble with toxic workplace culture and can't attract certain groups of people, like the younger generation."

Empower's software is planned to be launched internationally next year.
